Vern took these two photos on Armed Forces Day in May of 1955; 6 weeks before Kawishiwi
was commissioned. The tanker above was the first Vern had seen burdened with oil.
In August, Kawishiwi was almost sitting on the pier from high water caused from
Hurricanes Connie and Diane
Every thing you could imagine was floating down the river, including chicken coops.

Jersey, where you can see a lot full of cars.

used by workers of the Naval ship yard
